Therapeutic approach

John has extensive experience in short term work and offers a focused approach to assist you in concentrating on your key issues. After an initial assessment, this enables you to experience change in your life earlier than would be the case with open-ended long-term work, and makes therapy much more affordable. As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, John incorporates whatever theoretical approaches might assist you in your work. He provides a warm and collaborative space where you can develop fresh perspectives and a new sense of what’s possible.

I recognise how daunting a prospect it can be for anyone seeking counselling or psychotherapy – so from the outset I aim to provide a safe, accepting environment where you are able to express yourself and feel heard and supported. I believe that every human being is special and unique, and that if the blockages are removed from their lives through therapy they can become the person they were intended to be.

Areas of expertise

John has extensive experience of helping people explore a wide range of problems, with particular expertise in the following areas:

  • Identity issues
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Depression and suicidal thoughts
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Relationship or family problems
  • Terminal / chronic illness
  • Work-related issues

Qualifications and experience

In addition to his postgraduate diploma in psychotherapy, John holds an academic doctorate and a bachelor of science honours degree. He is also a Trustee and Director of the West London Centre for Counselling, where he works as a volunteer counsellor and psychotherapist. John has more than 25 years’ experience in human relations and understanding the psychological problems that beset each of us. He developed this understanding both through his work as a small group facilitator for the Bridge Pastoral Foundation, where he was also a Trustee and Director for 10 years; and as a senior manager in business life. From this background he brings a wealth of life-experience and wisdom to his work.
